King Daru sought to dominate King Alam's prosperous territory but was prevented by the loyalty of a dragon named Sabang, kept by King Alam. King Daru enlisted the help of two giants, resulting in a fight between the dragon and the giants. The body of the Sabang Dragon was thrown into the sea, and from it, Weh Island was formed. The name Weh means "go" or "move" in Acehnese, symbolizing the severed head and body of the dragon.

 

The island boasts various attractions, including its beautiful beaches, coral reefs, and ornamental fish, making it a popular destination for snorkeling and diving. The strong and large waves also provide potential for surfing activities.
